FAQs

Here you can find answers to some of the most common questions I have been asked. If you can’t find what you are looking for please contact me.

We will go through the counsellor/client agreement which can be downloaded using the button below. I will then explain in a little more depth, what you can expect from your sessions.

We may go through a couple of questionnaires, to help my understanding of where you currently feel you are emotionally, and there will be space for you to talk about some of your current concerns and what has brought you to counselling.

The first session will last 1 hour (PCT) 1.5 hours (CBT). Sessions following your opening session are 50 minutes.

The number of sessions varies depending on your needs.

CBT is a short-term, solution-focused therapy, so anything between 8 to 20 sessions is possible. Person-centred therapy is more open ended and I would be happy to see you until you feel ready to end therapy.

I will do regular reviews to check how you feel the therapy is going, and if you are getting the right support from your sessions. Some clients have gotten all they need from as little as 3-4 sessions, so it will depend on what you want to gain from your therapy and how you feel it is progressing.

Absolutely! Research has shown that psychological therapy delivered online is comparable to in-person therapy. It has several advantages – making it possible to access specialists outside your local area, saves you money on travel or parking, there’s no travel time, and you can access therapy from the comfort of your own home or office, keeping your privacy to a maximum.

I offer online therapy sessions using a secure platform called Doxy.me, built for health professionals. This is free for you to use and involves no downloads, just a one time link.

I offer online, one-to-one cognitive behavioural therapy and person-centred counselling.

You can read more about my services on the services page, or read about my qualifications on my about page.

Person-Centred counselling is £45 per session.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is £55 per session.

The therapeutic process works best as a regular commitment you can depend on over time and attending sessions regularly is important.

I will ask that any changes to a scheduled appointment be made at least 24 hours before the session, or I will still have to charge for the missed session.

My working hours are really flexible, and I will do my best to find you another appointment, should you not be able to attend the session you’ve originally booked.

Yes. I have flexible working hours that cover a range of weekday, evening and weekend slots.

Yes. The skills that I have developed during my training as a person-centred and CBT therapist have given me the ability to work with a range of mental health diagnoses including PTSD, complex trauma, anxiety, depression, phobias and OCD.

If you have any concerns or questions around this, please feel free to contact me and we can discuss your needs. If I don’t think that I am the best person to help, I will be upfront with this, and may be able to signpost you towards the type of therapy that most suits your needs.

There is no objective measure of ‘good’ or ‘bad’ in terms of people’s problems. What actually counts is how something makes you feel. If you feel bad, for whatever reason, then that is what matters. I am happy to talk through any issues, worries or concerns that you may have, no matter how big or small you may think they seem.

Yes. I offer flexible patterns of therapy from weekly, to bi-weekly, to tri-weekly to monthly.

I would recommend no more than 1 month between sessions, as you may find it more difficult to work on specific issues with a more drawn out process. CBT works more effectively when revisited in 1-2 week patterns.

Confidentiality and trust are crucial to the success of the process of therapy, and I treat all information shared as confidential. However, if I had concerns that there was a threat to yours or others’ safety, I have an obligation to inform the appropriate agencies. I would always try, where possible, to talk to you about this first.
